Mr. Kuok Chi Wa (Billy) co-founder of Woodland Medtech Technology Ltd. belongs to this group of hard-working youth.

Mr. Kuok Chi Wa has never limited himself on what he can achieve. He believes in the importance of diversified development, both in business and in his personal life. In business, he has founded or partnered in companies ranging from fields of technology, health care, finance, culture, design and entertainment, food and catering, etc. In society, he has contributed to various public welfare charity activities, and has taken on important management positions in numerous social groups and associations. Innovation Inspires Business Startups and Improvements

Woodland Medtech Technology Ltd. is a medical and technology company co-founded by Mr. Kuok and a number of other young Macao entrepreneurs. The business established within the healthcare technology solutions and services industry to make available a wide range of services that revolve around the integration of a one-stop personal health monitoring solution, healthcare big data application, and healthcare service providers. The goal of Woodland Medtech Technology Ltd. is to connect Chinese and Western doctors, clinics, pharmacies, patients, insurers, researchers and healthcare managers through its platforms. In 2020 April 20th, one of these platforms – “MedicTree” – entered its trial operation stage. In the foreseeable future, Mr. Kuok believes his company will soon bring about a new and healthy change in Macao’s medical industry.

With the signing of the “Framework Agreement of Strategic Cooperation on Smart City Development'' between the Government and the Alibaba Group in 2017, Macau has entered into a quiet digital revolution, especially in smart healthcare. In April 2018, an official publishment from China ““Opinions of the State Council Office on promoting the development of ‘Internet + Health’”, expressly defines the main direction to be followed: medical institutions should use the Internet, big data and artificial intelligence, among other technologies, to develop intelligent health care. In compliance with the government’s direction, Mr. Kuok and his team seized this opportunity to develop “MedicTree '', in particular marketed towards the rapidly expanding private healthcare sector. “MedicTree'' is a one-stop management platform for private clinics with the goal to revolutionize their traditional management system. The platform aims to enhance the clinic’s daily operation, management of patient data and efficiency of medical data analysis - and ultimately link with the public healthcare system, to become Macau’s region-wide one-stop platform for all. Macau will become the company’s main headquarters and platform deployment, and as the company matures, the company's 5-year plan is to actively integrate into the Greater Bay Area China; promoting the development of the Bay Area as well as linking the regions together through information sharing. In midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Kuok believes that his company and subsequent R&D in “MedicTree '' will be able to promote local employment, develop local talents and carve a new career path for Macau youth.

In his years of career development, Mr. Kuok attaches great importance to innovation. Innovation is vital in not only emerging fields such as information and technology, but also in the traditional industries such as food and catering, design and entertainment. Mr. Kuok’s management of his food business venture – Old Shanghai Restaurant, located in L’Arc Hotel Macau.

Old Shanghai Restaurant has been a long-standing local restaurant for 17 years since 2005. The restaurant has won “My Favorite Hotel Restaurant '' award numerous times, and its food and service have been praised by both Macau and mainland customers. However, since the pandemic, the restaurant’s business has taken a nosedive, and the planned business expansion has been put on hold. This is where Mr. Kuok steps in. He took the initiative to step forward and led a group of young entrepreneurs to team up with the restaurant’s older and more conservative management. Together, they worked with a synergy and seeked opportunities for the restaurant one after another - they expanded a new revenue channel by catering to major social organizations and enterprise annual meetings, seminars, spring tea and other events; they cooperated with hotel, tourism and similar entertainment businesses to develop a “one-stop” food and accommodation package, co-existing with other SMEs, coming up with a win-win situation for all. Mr. Kuok’s innovative spirit managed to save Old Shanghai Restaurant from stagnant growth. Aside from participating in traditional industries, Mr. Kuok also seeked other business challenges in the innovative high-technology sector.

Mr. Kuok is also one of the investment shareholders and executive director of Zhuhai Vertical Information Technology Ltd. This company was formed with the intention to develop radio frequency identification technology (RFID), but in its early days, the company engaged in the training and performance of UAVs (i.e. drones). As a result, one of the company’s other R&D focuses went into AI technology and intelligent robots. The company has rapidly developed in recent years and has set up two branches, one in Macau and another in Hengqin, China. The mission of the company is to bring about an improved standard of living through the power of technology.

For a country and a nation, innovation is the soul and inexhaustible power of development and progress, and for an enterprise, it is the necessary condition to find vitality and the way out. Mr. Kuok firmly believes that only by continuous persistence and innovation, enterprises can then continuously radiate vitality.

Diversified Development Opens Up Significant Career Opportunities

In 2016, Mr. Kuok graduated from his studies in Switzerland and returned to his homeland Macao. He has always insisted on diversified development and in the short span of 6 years since his return, he has successfully forged his career path in various industries covering science and technology, culture, entertainment, design, medical, investment, catering and other fields. On his path to success, there have been voices always telling him that “if you want to be successful, you have to have a singular focus." In this regard, his understanding is that innovation and entrepreneurship is not blindly pursuing a focus, but to have the courage to create, in order to achieve a new height. "Innovation is to draw on, to absorb, and to break through." In order to gain more experience, Guo chose to diversify his career.

Macau SO Entertainment  Ltd is another company Mr. Kuok founded. This company advocates the development of local entertainment and cultural activities; and it is committed to providing more eating and drinking options to the public and tourists. In line with Macao’s vision to become a City of Gastronomy, the company assisted and supported the government in organizing a series of events such as "Macau Food City Carnival", "Guinness World Record - The Longest Egg Roll" and "Macao Summer Carnival". All such events have been unanimously praised by the Macao society.

In 2019, Mr. Kuok also ventured into the design industry. Together with a group of young entrepreneurs in Macau, he founded Joro Design Ltd, a branding building consultancy as well as an interior design and build company directed at commercial shops and high-end home residences. In the  last three years, Joro has built and consulted for a number of unique shops for Macau, from restaurants, coffee shops, beauty shops, health treatment shops to skin care shops. Mr. Kuok and his team realized the lack of local understanding in regards to “brand positioning”, and they built Joro as the perfect solution to SMEs, to educate them on how to build their relevant platforms.

Through his career journey, Mr. Kuok developed very important insights. One of which is that, when he once believed two industries are completely unrelated, they can actually support each other during the company’s growth respectively. For example, technology companies provide IT support to design companies as well as medical companies; design companies can provide great visuals and upgrade brand positioning for entertainment companies; and entertainment companies can provide excellent event management for other industries.

In response to Macao’s call to build the city's position as "one center, one platform and one base", the aim of the company is to promote economic and trade cooperation activities between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, Macao is the bridge of contact to boost each other's economic development, benefit the people of all parties and benefit the growth of enterprises.

Persevering in his own business philosophy of  diversified development, Mr. Kuok has successfully forged his own career path in a short span of 6 years. Quality of Life Is Built on Self-Discipline

Beside all his achievements, Mr. Kuok has a great work-life balance. He loves swimming, working out at the gym and street jogging, and has a very healthy exercise habit. He also enjoys organising and participating in many charity activities, giving back to the society in every way he can. He is also an active member in a number of local social groups and associations. All of this, he attributes to his family education, school education - growing up with self-discipline and respect for others.

Thailand is Mr. Kuok’s hometown on his mother’s side, and his mother often takes him back to visit relatives during Chinese New Year. His mother taught him not to forget the culture of his ancestors, and every year, his mother brought him to donate goods and do charity work for local hospitals and organizations (NPOs). In 2020, his mother gathered Macao’s benevolent people, and fundraised money to donate more than 100 beds to a hospital located in Thailand Lai Hing Province. She also organized all the paperwork and follow-up reports to all the sponsors. Under the influence of his mother, Mr. Kuok embarked on the road of charity work very early in his childhood. Since making his own money, he has donated materials for orphans and disabled children annually.

Mr. Kuok’s mother has always taught him to be grateful, she is not only his tutor in life lessons but also in his hobbies. When he decided to learn Latin and social dancing, his mother would practice with him. When he wanted to participate in swimming, football, tennis and other sports, his mother would always encourage and support him in trying new things. He participated in Latin dance competitions, he was on Macao’s swimming team, and has also represented Macao abroad in football and tennis competitions. Although he gave up pursuing further extracurricular activities due to his busy entrepreneur life, he still keeps up a healthy exercise habit.
